Undisciplining the Victorian Classroom

I’m so excited to announce that starting in January 2023, I will be an Assistant Editor for the fabulous, the fantastic Undisciplining the Victorian Classroom, a project that I’ve been following closely since its inception in 2020.

Undisciplining the Victorian Classroom (UVC) is a wonderful project that came out of the call to “Undiscipline Victorian Studies” (Chatterjee, Christoff, Wong 2020). The ultimate goal of this kind of undisciplining is to recognize academic disciplines, categorization, and hierarchy as themselves a colonial superstructure; undisciplining, then, is “an integral part of antiracist, anti-colonial, and decolonial organizing and activism.” UVC provides practical tools for how to do so: Zoomcasts with interdisciplinary scholars, lesson plans, and syllabi. I have used the tools myself to learn more about the British empire: the East Asian, African, and Caribbean Victorians who are so seldom included on syllabi.

I can’t wait to embark on assisting with this very worthy project. More news soon!
